Banmira Specialist School in partnership with parents, carers and the community provides an opportunity for all children to have a meaningful and worthwhile education that maximises their talents and abilities and enhances respect and self-esteem and prepare each individual for a purposeful pathway into adulthood.
Formerly known as Verney Road School
We are excited to announce that Verney Road School is now officially known by our new name, Banmira Specialist School.
‘Banmira‘ is a local Yorta Yorta and Bangarang language word meaning ‘valley’.
Excellence in Supportive Learning
Banmira Specialist School is a state government educational facility in the North Eastern Victoria regional city of Shepparton. Students at the school are funded under the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) and have a mild to profound intellectual disability. Many students have multiple diagnoses of disability which may include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), associated impairments such as sensory and physical impairments and/or challenging behaviours.
Our Structure
Early Education
Our Early Education Program caters for children from 2.8 years of age. It is a centre-based program that supports children’s early learning and development in partnership with parents and families and is guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF).
Junior Campus
(Primary School)
Students aged 5 to 12 learn at our brand-new Junior Campus on Parkside Drive. Primary school-aged children engage in a broad range of learning experiences under the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, designed to build foundational skills and support their individual needs.
Senior Campus
(Secondary School)
Students aged 12 to 18 continue their journey at our original Verney Road location. Those in Years 10, 11 and 12 can access a range of curriculum options, including the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC), School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT), as well as ASDAN from 2026.
High Intensity Outside School Hours Care
Run by our School Council and fully funded by the Department of Education, Banmira Care welcomes all students at our school to its after-school care and school holiday programs.
School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a framework that helps us to plan and implement practices across the whole school, to improve educational and behaviour outcomes for all students.
The SWPBS framework is founded on a positive approach to whole school well being with targeted approaches for students with higher levels of need.

Our New Campus
The staged relocation of Banmira Specialist School sees the major upgrade of the former Wanganui Park Secondary College on Parkside Drive, Shepparton.
Banmira's Milestone Moment
To celebrate the opening of our new campus and the launch of our new name, Banmira Specialist School partnered with the Shepparton News to produce a special 24-page commemorative lift-out.
